NCETM publishes guidance on what makes a high quality mathematics textbook

The NCETM has published new guidance on what it considers the essential components of high quality mathematics textbooks.

The principal intention is to help authors and publishers in the design of textbooks, in particular to support teaching in line with the new National Curriculum and new GCSE qualifications. But the guidance will also be of use to primary and secondary schools when making decisions about the choice of textbooks for use by teachers and pupils.

The guidance coincides with, but is not directly linked to, a trial of two textbooks, and associated teacher professional development, about to start in 68 primary schools, as part of the Maths Hubs programme.
