NCETM Director defends principle of wider maths textbook use

The NCETM Director Charlie Stripp has defended the principle of wider use of mathematics textbooks in schools, particularly primary schools. In an article published on the TES website, he responds to suggestions, voiced in some quarters, that wider textbook use by teachers would amount to prescription and loss of teacher autonomy. He also gives details of the mathematics textbook trial, which is soon to start in 68 Year 1 classes around the country, as part of the Maths Hubs programme.
